Farmington Continues March Madness Fundraising Efforts

For the fourth consecutive year, the Farmington office hosted it’s “March Madness” fundraiser. Once the Men’s NCAA basketball brackets were set, they were distributed to Farmington employees. For those who wanted to participate, a $5 donation was suggested (but not required) for each bracket, and employees could submit as many brackets as they wanted. The person with the best bracket at the end of the tournament could choose which charity would receive the funds raised.

This year, the office raised $200. Jen Capute was the undisputed champion, so along with the basketball trophy and bragging rights, she has chosen to donate the funds raised to Las Margaritas Foundation. The mission of this nonprofit humanitarian organization is to serve the needs of the community in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, with a focus on helping children in the area to become leaders and bring positive change to their community. This is an organization close to Jen’s heart, as Las Margaritas Foundation was founded by her brother and sister-in-law, and each year summer they run a camp for the children in the area. Both of Jen’s kids volunteer as teen leaders at the camp, too.

Congratulations to Jen and the Farmington office for these fundraising efforts!

Helping our First Responders

Last month, OneBeacon Government Risks’ Sarah Schmitz spent the day with her 4th grade daughter’s Girl Scout Troop at their First Responder Appreciation event for the Maple Plain, MN first responders. Supported by the Trust, items were collected for care packages to provide to their local police force, firefighters, EMTs, etc. The packages included gift cards to local restaurants, coffee, hand sanitizer, lip balm, hand warmers, snacks and homemade cards created by the Scouts.

Not only did the troops collect enough for their local fighters, but they were also able to contribute to the City of Orono Police Department. In addition to the assembling and delivering of packages, the first responders also provided first aid training to the troop! A thank you to all our emergency responders and great work!

Kicking Off 2019 with Giving Back

Every year around the holiday season, the OneBeacon Charitable Trust donates to organizations around the country that are important to our office’s communities. As part of this year’s holiday donations, our Farmington, CT office donated $2,500 to Foodshare, a Connecticut-based food bank with a vision to increase the amount of food available, while connecting people with resources aimed at improving their quality of life. Our teammates in the Farmington office have worked closely with this organization in the last few years, so the group was thrilled to give back to this organization as it’s helped so many in the community.

Additionally, our Boston office held a food drive for the Greater Boston Food Bank, and donated $2,500 to the organization as part of the holiday donations funded by the Trust. They collected over 50 items for those in need in the Greater Boston area. Great work to all!

Happy Holidays from OneBeacon

From all of us at OneBeacon, we’re wishing you all a safe and happy holiday! This time of year is all about giving back and spreading joy. In recognition, the OneBeacon Charitable Trust donated $50,000 to nonprofits important to our employees and their communities this holiday season.

San Antonio’s WINGS Fundraiser

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month and as an annual tradition, our San Antonio office held mini fundraisers within the office in support of the Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving and Sharing (WINGS) organization. WINGS is a local charity that assists breast cancer patients to bridge the financial gap between the diagnosis and treatment. The organization also offers lifetime comprehensive breast health care services to women in Central and South Texas.

All through the month of October, employees participated in bake sales, raffles, and the frito pie chef even made his famous dish for sale. The office was decked out in pink decorations all month long, as employees also wore their pink gear.  San Antonio raised $750 for this amazing cause, while the Charitable Trust matched their donation, grand totaling to $1,500! Great job to you all for your efforts!

OneBeacon attends 10th Annual W.I.N.E. Charity Golf outing

International Marine Underwriters’ Meredith Atwood and Technology’s Kathleen Gonzales recently attended the 10th Annual Nine and W.I.N.E. Charity Golf event in Stow, MA. Women in Insurance New England (W.I.N.E.), where OneBeacon is a member, participate each year at this golf outing. It’s a great forum to give back to the community and catch up with industry colleagues. All proceeds benefit The Women’s Lunch place, a day shelter serving hot meals to homeless women in the greater Boston area. In addition to the golf, there are chances to win raffle prizes and all participants are asked to a donation item to the shelter. The Charitable Trust has sponsored this event in years past, and is proud to be a part of this wonderful cause.
