Community giving is as much about volunteering time as offering financial support. All across our company, we see examples of individual and team volunteering efforts, which reinforces OneBeacon’s style of always “doing the right thing.” Our Boston team was the most recent group to offer time for a great cause. Spearheaded by Healthcare Group’s Susan Angelo, six teammates spent a morning on kitchen duty at the Pine Street Inn. This nearly 50-year old organization is New England’s leading provider of housing, shelter, street outreach and job training to homeless men and women. Susan has organized quarterly volunteer mornings for several years. Now with an expanded Boston presence, the team looks forward to continuing this wonderful custom to help those in need. In fact, roughly half the office will return to the Pine Street Inn next month during the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s “Week of Giving.”

Personally, I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with my teammates chopping vegetables and prepping meals for those in need. Kudos to Susan for initiating this custom; we all look forward to returning to Pine Street Inn soon!
